London Gay Pride 2013: Bringing Pride Back
26th – 29th June 2013
July 1990 saw Gay Pride’s 21st anniversary of the movement in London blowing whistles, banging drums and clutching pink balloons, parading through the streets down Embankment and Whitehall, past Westminster to end in Kennington Park. An estimated 20,000 people took part with more rallying for the end party in Kennington. However, this venue only lasted a couple of years due to damage costs during the festivities.
The upcoming exhibition ‘Take Me Home: Bringing it Back’, reclaims the locale of that small and often forgotten period in Pride History. Based in a domestic environment in the heart of Kennington, the show will endeavour to bring London’s LGBTQ and diverse creative communities together to mark Pride 2013 through the original artworks of both emerging and established contemporary artists.
